Bernay-en-Ponthieu: Transforming a Dilapidated House into Two Rental Units
Bernay-en-Ponthieu, a quaint village with 240 residents, is set to embark on two major projects in 2025. The town’s mayor, Grégory Dufour, emphasized the importance of community well-being during the New Year’s address on January 11th. « Bernay-en-Ponthieu is a small village where life is good, and where we feel at home. We must ensure this continues, » he remarked.
In his speech, Mayor Dufour stressed the significance of community engagement, urging residents to partake in simple acts like cleaning up after their pets, picking up litter, maintaining their hedges, and adhering to traffic regulations. Amidst concerns about the financial state of local authorities, he highlighted the unprecedented budgetary challenges faced by municipalities due to the national budget delays.
A New Road to the Crécy Forest
Despite these financial uncertainties, Mayor Dufour remains committed to enhancing the town’s infrastructure and services. He outlined two key projects for the upcoming year, starting with the renovation of a road leading to the Crécy forest. « We have reached an agreement with the National Forestry Office, the SIAEP, Hervé Fournier, and Hubert Trouart to fund the restoration of the forest road from Blanc-Hêtre Street to the pumping station, » the mayor announced.
These roadworks are scheduled to commence in March, providing residents with pedestrian and cycling access to the picturesque Crécy forest. The initiative aims to promote outdoor activities and enhance the community’s connection to nature.
Two Rental Units on RD1001
Another significant project slated for 2025 is the construction of two rental units on RD1001. « The municipality owns a house that has been at risk of collapsing for two years. We intend to build two rental units on the property, » explained Mayor Dufour. This real estate venture addresses the pressing need for housing in the town and the wider Somme department.
« When we advertised our two existing rental units, we received ten inquiries the next day. It’s truly remarkable, » Mayor Dufour added. Providing housing within the community is vital to sustaining its vitality and ensuring its continued growth.
However, administrative constraints have slowed progress on this project. The house’s proximity to the former post relay has led to its classification, necessitating approval from the French Heritage Foundation. The municipality awaits the master builder’s return with plans and cost estimates, eager to kickstart the project as soon as possible.
Despite these hurdles, Bernay-en-Ponthieu remains proactive in various smaller endeavors, such as repairing the crumbling cemetery wall for €24,624 and rejointing the church facade bricks for €2,436. The town will also transition to LED street lighting in 2025, with upgrades planned for communal housing and technical facilities.
As Bernay-en-Ponthieu navigates the challenges ahead, the community’s resilience and dedication to progress shine through. Stay updated on the latest news from your favorite cities and media outlets by signing up for Mon Actu.
